Für eine radikale Imagination von Wissenschaft

Freiheit ist Teil des Problems einer existierenden Unfreiheit. Ausgehend von dieser im Zusammenhang des Black Radical Thought hergeleiteten These argumentiert der Debattenbeitrag, dass die Verteidigung von Wissenschaftsfreiheit in Reaktion auf die Beschneidung akademischer Räume infolge aktueller Verhandlungen des Nahostkonflikts leerläuft. An die Stelle eines Plädoyers für Wissenschaftsfreiheit tritt die Forderung nach einer radikalen Imagination von Wissenschaft. Diese nimmt Ausgang davon, was Rinaldo Walcott als «long emancipation» beschreibt, also einer Emanzipation, die, weil sie noch nicht erlangt worden ist, ein neues Wissen produziert. 

Freedom is part of the problem that there is a lack of freedom. Based on this thesis gathered from Black Radical Thought, this contribution argues that defending academic freedom in response to the curtailment of academic spaces as a result of current negotiations on the Middle East conflict is futile. Instead of a plea for academic freedom, the contribution is a call for a radical imagination of scholarship. This takes its starting point from what Rinaldo Walcott describes as «long emancipation», that is, an emancipation that, because it has not yet been achieved, produces new forms of knowledge.
