Interfaces | Plattformen

Der ZfM-Schwerpunkt «Interfaces | Plattformen» versammelt medienwissenschaftliche Beiträge, die Interfaces als relationale, prozessuale und machtvolle Bedingungen der digitalen Gegenwart und ihrer Plattformen analysieren. Sowohl sichtbar als auch verborgen stiften Interfaces computerspezifische Beziehungen und Verbindungen zwischen Menschen (und anderen Lebensformen), Maschinen, Daten und Infrastrukturen. In der Engführung mit Prozessen der Plattformisierung rücken Fragen wie Governance, API-Ökonomien und Datenarbeit in den Fokus. Die Fallstudien im Heft untersuchen diese Dynamiken in soziotechnischen, ästhetischen und politisch-ökonomischen Kontexten, unter anderem im Feld generativer KI, und entwickeln Interface-Analysen als produktive Forschungsheuristik der Medienwissenschaft.

The ZfM special issue «Interfaces | Platforms» brings together media studies contributions that analyze interfaces as relational, processual, and powerful conditions of the digital present and its platform architecture. Both visible and hidden, interfaces create computer-specific relationships and connections between people (and other life forms), machines, data, and infrastructures. In conjunction with processes of platformization, questions of governance, API economies, and data work, among others, come into focus. The case studies in this issue examine these dynamics in various socio-technical, aesthetic, and political-economic contexts, including the field of generative AI, and develop interface analyses as a productive research heuristic in media studies.
